Voter turnout was a dismal 23.4% across Alabama for the primaries on May 24, despite two hot state races — the Republican contests for governor and a U.S. Senate seat. Clarke County was a little better, with a 33.6% turnout. Out of a total of 18,996 voters, 6,390 cast ballots. Turnout is never what it should be. A turnout of 40% or better is often considered good.
