64 Years AgoJune 1958 The U.S. House Appropriations Committee on June 9 approved million in funding for a new Jackson Lock and Dam on the Tombigbee River, and .7 million for the Fort Gaines Lock and Dam. William Writ Clarke, a Jackson pioneer and businessman, died June 12 at Jackson Hospital. He was 78. Clarke was a partner and then owner of the W. G. Bevil Company, established in Jackson in 1900.
