In the United States, there are names that have become almost synonymous with wine, among which are Gallo (if you're over 50) and Mondave.  Italy too has its classic families that are firmly attached to the word of wine, one among which is the Frescobaldi family who began making wine in the early 1300s.  If longevity is any judge of quality, I believe that Frescobaldi will have to be at the very top of the list, where they truly belong.  Leonardo Da Vinci was probably sipping a Frescobaldi wine in 1503 as was Mona Lisa while sitting for her portrait...
