God promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to bless them, give them descendants, to give them the promised land and to bless all nations through them.

Pharaoh had enslaved Israel. Under his power, he would keep Israel from God's promises. But God acted powerfully against Egypt and for Israel to keep his covenant.

Exodus 10:1-7 2. "That you may tell your children" "How I dealt harshly (humiliated) with Egypt" I performed signs among them (punishing Egypt, but delivering Israel) I am The Lord - there is no other, no other god to serve, love look to.

Deuteronomy 6:20-23 “When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the Lord our God has commanded you?’ then you shall say to your son, ‘We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. And the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes. And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers.

II. 23. "He brought us out to bring us in" Out of captivity into freedom Out of death into life Out of Egypt into the promised land

Jesus brought us out from - captivity/slavery to sin, darkness, death, Satan's power Jesus brought us into - forgiveness, freedom, light, life, love/relationship, kingdom Come out of sin, darkness, alienation, and death. Come into forgiveness, light, relationship, and life.

2a. "How I dealt harshly with Egypt"- literally, "humiliated" One of the themes of the Exodus is Yahweh triumphing over Pharaoh and all the false gods of Egypt. God's victory over them was complete. This theme of God crushing his enemies is key to Christianity. If God is God, then He must be superior to other false gods. He must be greater than His enemies. What hope do we have to escape sin? What hope do we have against an enemy that seeks to steal, kill and destroy us? What hope does the sinner have? The immoral, addict, greedy, idolaters? What hope do we have to escape the judgment of death?

Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭13-15‬ When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

We were dead in sin. He made us alive with Christ. He forgave our sins. Canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness in the OT Law We stood condemned, but he took our condemnation on himself on the cross. He disarmed his enemies, humiliated them, triumphing over them by the cross.

As Jesus was dying in disgrace on the cross, the enemies of God believed they had won. Hatred, jealousy, violence, betrayal, and unbelief put Jesus of the cross.

But God triumphed through the cross, through the redemptive work of Jesus. He publicly disgraced his enemies. He revealed them for who they were. And he shows sin for what it is: disgraceful, deserving death. He shows the enemies of God for who they are: dark, scheming, lying, destructive

And he asks all mankind, "will you stay here in sin? In the kingdom of the enemy?" Or will you escape into my redemption? Will you come into the kingdom of my Son? The kingdom of my covenant of grace and mercy, freedom, and life. Will you accept my victory over your sin? Will you come out? Will you come in?

The Israelites followed God out of slavery, but they did not follow him into the promised land. Have you come out? Have you come in? In the NT, "coming in" looks like relationship - are you in?
