Fool Proof part 4 - Wisdom for Life from Proverbs

I know something about you, because the same is true of me... The greatest regrets in your life are times that you ventured off the path Maybe that's why you're here, or why you came to Christ, "I need someone to help me stop making a mess of my life."

Proverbs says if you'll follow its wisdom, it will make make your path straight, it will keep you from falling. It will help "fool proof" your life.

Proverbs 4:1-9 King David teaching his son Solomon as a boy. Wisdom is an inheritance. We inherit from our parents how to live - by their teaching and their actions. We have the responsibility to pass on godly wisdom to our children and GC.

1. Lay hold of my words Keep my commands

2. Get wisdom, get understanding Do not forget, do not swerve from them, 6. do not forsake wisdom

3. Wisdom is supreme, so Get wisdom, Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

David laid it out for Solomon. Of all your pursuits in life, this is the most important. Wisdom is the greatest treasure.

Knowing how to live, how to make good choices, how to understand the world and your place in it - how to live a life in line with God - that is most important.

Even if it costs you everything else, godly wisdom - a godly life - is worth it, so pursue it above everything else.

These words had an impact on Solomon. In 1 Kings 3, Solomon asked God for a discerning heart above all else. He collected and wrote his own wisdom in 24 chapters of Proverbs. He would become a wise man, the wisest man, until the coming of Jesus Christ

For is today, the proverbs teach us how to live a godly life, how to teach our children, and how to illuminate the path of a godly life for other people.

Our pursuit of wisdom should be like Solomon's. Get wisdom, though it cost you everything, get understanding.

For believers, wisdom is embodied in a person, a Jesus Christ. We should pursue him above every other pursuit.

Jesus is the ultimate wiseman of Proverbs. He is supremely wise. - He lived in perfect wisdom - showing us how to live a godly life. - He taught wisdom - teaching us how to find God, forgiveness, redemption.

1Corinthians 1:26-31 26. We were not wise 27-28 but God chose us - the weak and lowly - to demonstrate his wisdom in us. 29 no one can boast about being wise, except God alone. 30 Jesus has become our wisdom - - Righteousness - acceptable to God, -our right standing before God - holiness - purification, consecration - our state in Christ - redemption - deliverance, release by payment of ransom - our freedom by Jesus' payment

Colossians 2:1-3 Paul prays for the church to possess and understand the fullness of the sweeping scope of what Jesus has done for them. Not some new blessing, but comprehension and possession of all that Christ has accomplished for them Right standing with God, purity, freedom in Christ and so much more...

1. In [Christ] are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

So, lay hold of Jesus. get Christ Jesus. Jesus is supreme, so Get Christ Jesus, Though it cost all you have, get The Lord Jesus.

Close: pursue Jesus. Seek Jesus above all else. In quiet time - and in community.
