This episode is for our parents. (If they listen! Haha). Mum and Dad- Thank you for always giving us your advice.
Hello everybody.
Family of origin ( A definition): Our family of origin is the family we were born or adopted into. It’s the people who raise us and who we spend most of our childhood with.
We are largely shaped by our environment. What environment is more key to shaping who we are than the people who first surround us. It is from these people that we first begin to attach meaning onto life.
In this episode, Lindy and I talk about family and the cultures that we were brought up in. We discuss the things we value from our upbringing and the things we would like to take into the families we form.
I talk about secrecy in our family. Some things are not talked about in our family. Some of this comes from traditions of respect and sacredness. Some of it comes from the attitudes that our parents brought from their family of origin. We love the privacy and independence that our parents have given us and yet we would love to take on a culture of more transparency into our families going forward.
Lindy and I love how our parents have taught us good virtues by example while giving us the freedom towards choosing what we want to believe. We talk about how our family of origin allowed us to express who we are as individuals and so truly help us become who we are.
Openness, transparency, privacy...family of origin. We hope you enjoy it guys. As always, thank you for joining the conversation.
