The telecom industry of India is the second largest in the world. The telecom sector is critical to India’s national economy and national security. In recent years, the Union Government has brought in a range of policy measures to support localisation in telecom and allied sectors, especially in manufacturing and design. It has also proposed a new telecommunications law which will replace the British era Indian Telegraphs Act, 1885.
