You've spent weeks - or even months - writing your play on Microsoft Word. The big question - what next?
Channel NewsTheatre speaks to Ahmad Musta'ain Khamis (Main Tulis Group) and Faith Ng (Checkpoint Theatre) about their journeys as playwrights, how their plays went from page to stage, and their takes on what one can take away from playwriting - whether or not it becomes part of their long-term creative practice or career.
Ahmad Musta'ain Khamis used to be a full-time educator and would pursue his love for playwriting only in his free time. He enjoyed working on applied theatre projects specifically with sensitive communities in Singapore. He then found the courage to pursue a Masters in Playwriting at the University of Edinburgh and decided to leave MOE to pursue more creative work and opportunities to engage in theatre/drama education. Ahmad is a founding member of Malay playwright circle, Main Tulis Group (MTG) that looks at Malay-centric issues in contemporary Singapore.
Faith Ng is a playwright, educator, and Associate Artistic Director of Checkpoint Theatre. Her plays include A Good Death (2018), Normal (2015, 2017), For Better or for Worse (2013), and wo(men) (2010). Her collection of plays, Faith Ng: Plays Volume 1 was published in 2016.
