THE PSALMS OF DAVID – A Heart After God’s Own
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. King David – PSALM 28:7 (NIV)
King David truly was a ‘hero of the faith’ – the only person mentioned more in scripture than him was Jesus Himself. His faith and zeal created a standard against which all Israel’s future kings were measured. He was, however, far from perfect.
In his life he was confronted by many challenges, some of his own making, some through no fault of his own, but despite all this, he stayed faithful till the end and his legacy remained, ‘a man after God’s own heart’ (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts 13:22).
Over the next week, we’ll explore together five of the psalms David wrote throughout his life. How did King David navigate the seasons of joy, trouble, and immense difficulty that he came across? What insights can we draw from David’s life that could impact our own? How do we become people after ‘God’s own heart’?
