Today we sit down with David Halvorson, founder of the Windy Willow Foundation, a Grand Rapids-based non-profit dedicated to a more focused and actionable step working towards the goal of bettering the community of mental health initiatives. Or as he puts it: "Windy Willow is a project that is working daily to make it better." David founded Windy Willow in college after experiencing the loss of close friends to suicide and seeing the huge blind spots communities have when it comes to mental health and access to resources. On this episode we discuss "brain science", the importance of community, and talk frankly about the dying model of traditional non-profits and how the concept of perpetual growth can distract organizations from making a positive impact. We also learn that some sharks can swim in freshwater.
