I wrote this poem in my twenties. I'm now in my fourties. It's funny how something can travel through time to become a song so much later. another funny thing about this song is that it took me about a half an hour to conceive and record the video. It just kind of poured out.

Original Poem

Blood, Bones, and Fish

The fish I take from pond are silver

I rake them cold to make them quiver

I shake them bold to drown a sliver

Spilled on the coffee table of my soul.

Broken buttons jam my memory box

I hit select, but my motion doesn’t stop

Quaking and shaking my vacant morality

Into an inverse spirituality that causes

Me to laugh uncontrollably

Into the mouth of my venerability

Like a caged octopus in heat

I flail my limbs at rapid speed

And heed no one else’s need

Because I’m a victim of gentility

A willing servant on his steed

Gallivanting toward whatever

Lies untouched by my attention;

And my lust is calling me

To feed on unproductive things.

The deer I slay in past are red

I break their bones to make my bed

Their meat is neat upon my sheet

Their sinews wrap around my feet.
