The packers had to deal with a shortened holiday week, and let’s just say they had to pay-up to attain cattle. Fed cattle in the north sold up to 9, with a range of 7 to 9, and 5 to 6 in the meat. The south also enjoyed a to higher market with cattle selling at 4 to 5. Estimated weekly slaughter numbers in the shortened week were 581,000 head higher than the same week last year by 14,000 head.
