Bison hunting isn’t allowed in Yellowstone National Park, but in a tiny gulch just outside of the park perimeter, where the two herds that call Yellowstone home merge, bison hunting is legal. On a quarter-square-mile area at the mouth of Beattie Gulch, an annual bison hunt is held. In 2000, the Interagency Bison Management Plan was developed, which encouraged hunters to shoot bison who migrate outside of Yellowstone National Park in search of grass during the winter.
