The self will not last forever, neither will the image of the self. However, if you are lucky enough—and put in effort to write—a part of your ideas might be transferred into the future, hopefully leading to comfort and a positive change for people you will never meet. In that sense, writing is connected to causing water ripples: write now, ripple into change later, and that change on their turn might cause another ripple, hopefully impacting the world in a good way.

Wouter, I am really intrigued by your suggestion of writing as a means of “becoming your own god”. This reminds me of Jean-Paul Sartre’s reference to “choosing for all men.” I write for me, but at the same time, for “all men”, causing ripples.
