Hear Amanda’s powerful story about homelessness and drug abuse, to then breaking through and has been able to let the good things into her life. She is striving to become an inspiration and let people know that they are stronger than they think. Trigger warning regarding the mention of suicide.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
In the moments Amanda made the wrong choices, she was thinking about the wants and needs of others. Will this person stop talking to me? Will something bad happen if I don’t do this? She was surrounded by people who didn’t have her best interests in mind.
It took hitting her lowest point before Amanda ever asked what she wanted. She went to her husband and asked him to make her see herself the way he saw her. Her self-acceptance was so low she wouldn’t allow herself to love herself. It’s a constant process of affirmation and visualization that she can have the life she wants.
The only difference between fear and excitement is how we breathe. With fear we shallow breathe but with excitement we deep breathe. The sensations in our brain are the same.
Being able to be yourself is such a relief. The ability to accept the things about yourself that once caused anxiety is freeing. Amanda is no longer reluctant to tell her story because she accepts who she is and knows it doesn’t define her.
BEST MOMENTS
‘I had other wake up calls throughout my story, but this one stuck.’
‘Sometimes it takes that rock bottom where everything is on the line.’
‘How can you say you value second chances when you’ve never given yourself a second chance.’
‘The people who truly love me will be there no matter what version of me I am.’
