In this week's episode, we're talking about the journey of coming home to yourself. It's incredibly hard to know what we want for ourselves when we've spent most of our lives putting other's needs before our own or just haven't had the space to get quiet with ourselves and listen to what our heart desires. This week's guest, Liz Torkington, shares her journey of navigating two long-term marriages and separations that led her to living on her own for the first time and thriving in her beautiful 40s. She is a wonderful example of what dedicated single time and self-exploration can do for anyone.

Enjoy this week's story time friends!

On this week's episode, we're talking all about insecurities and how to kick those BS things you say and think about yourself to the curb! Self-love is one of the main pillars of my empowerment coaching business. To truly love ourselves, we have to confront that inner critic head-on and shift to a mindset of gratitude for our bodies. You'll hear me open up and share some of the reoccurring insecurities I've struggled with over the years and what I'm doing now and recommend my clients practice for daily self-love and compassion.

This is the final episode of a three-part series with my lovely friend Tava. If you have not yet listened to the first two episodes then don’t you dare listen to this one just yet! Scroll back a few episodes and start with Pay it Forward, Tell Your Story followed by Snapchat is a No and then jump right back into this episode!

To recap the journey we’ve been on the last few weeks- this is a personal story of finding yourself in an incredibly draining and toxic relationship and the roller coaster of emotions that comes with falling in love with a psychopath. In this episode, Tava spills the tea on how she uncovered the truth about her fiance’s infidelities and gives us a glimpse into the aftermath of what it’s like untangling from this type of relationship. Spoiler alert- it’s probably going to be one of the hardest things you may ever go through- but the silver lining is, as Tava so beautifully shares, the personal growth that happens when you overcome this hell of a hurdle. So if you have recently broken up with a manipulative relationship, then take a minute to appreciate the strength it took to walk away and acknowledge how far you’ve come. If only gets better friends, I promise you!

If you’re interested in learning more about how to spot warning signs of manipulation then click here to sign up for information on my upcoming empowerment workshop. In this workshop, I’ll be covering what the sneaky signs of manipulation look like, tricks on how to spot manipulative people early on, and how to protect yourself and your peace!

Originally I planned to make this recording a 2 part series but as I sat down to finish edits, I decided it was best to go for a 3 part series on this one. There are so many details and parts of Tava's share that deserve to be processed and understood.

Her story very clearly displays a classic example of what the cycle of narcissistic abuse looks like. Phase 1- Idealization. Phase 2- Devaluation. Phase 3- Discard.

In part 1 from last week, Tava describes the love bombing, false self, future faking, and data mining that her ex displays which is what happens during the idealization stage. Last week you also started to see signs of devaluation which include blame shifting, emotional neglect, and gaslighting. These manipulation tactics carry over into this week’s episode part 2. All classic textbook narcissistic manipulation tactics.

Have you ever met someone and within minutes you feel energetically connected to them? Not in a romantic way but in a the sense of relatable life experience. This person you know nothing about but you can just tell from the way they carry themselves and the way they speak about life that you know on a deep emotional level what they have been through in life and you feel this sense of familiarity. They just get it and you really see them and know the battles they've fought.

This is exactly how I felt meeting Tava who is my guest for this episode. Tava and I were introduced through a mutual friend and it took us just one round of cocktails at her lovely home to realize we had some shared life experiences and were meant to cross paths. In our sit down together, she so courageously opens her heart and tells her story about how the man she fell hard and fast in love with, turned out to be a life altering experience. Make sure you listen all the way till the end because that cliff hanger will leave you coming back for more next week on part two.

I want to also give you all a fun little business update on what I’ve been working on over here since going Entrepenuer full time!

I have rebranded myself as Self-Empowerment Coach and oh boy does this feel so freaking good guys! You may have noticed in some of my past episodes I referred to myself as the breakup coach and for those of you that have ever had a side hustle, ran your own business or work in marketing- you know how tough it can be to brand yourself! Breakup coach was something that my business coaches and I had landed on back in the summer last year when I first launched my coaching business and although it was catchy and direct - there was always something that didn’t quite sit right for me. And when I think about what my ideal clients look like and by that I actually mean - what they feel and desire from a guidance perspective - it’s a combination of education and support. Education and support are the two main components of empowerment.

So let me break down for you guys what I do: I coach people who have experienced a track record of unhealthy relationships (work/family/romantic) in their lives and have hit a breaking point where they want better for themselves. They desire to prioritize self-growth and establish a relationship with themselves that will stand the test of time. They need to deeply root themselves in who they are- morals, values, and beliefs. My coaching practice focuses on 3 main developmental areas: self-fulfillment, self-love, and self-confidence. A beautiful trio that when focused on thoughtfully with professional guidance will lead you to the most EMPOWERED version of yourself. I like to call this your “You Era”.

Word of mouth is so incredibly powerful my friends so If I can ask you right now listener on the other end - who do you know in your life that could benefit from my coaching services? A friend? A sibling? A partner? A coworker? Maybe you? For a limited time I’m offering 45-minute free consultations for prospective coaching clients so pass this episode along or drop a link to my website in someone’s DMs and spread the word. Thank you all so much and enjoy this week’s episode!

In this week's episode, we are learning about Narcissistic Personality Disorder from the perspective of someone who has interviewed hundreds of people with NPD in different settings. Danielle Radin is a reporter, author, certified domestic violence counselor, and narcissistic abuse recovery coach and she provides us with tactics on how to navigate communicating with people in our lives who show signs of NPD. I know there are a lot of you out there who co-parent with a narcissist, have a boss that’s a narcissist, or maybe a mother or father-in-law that you just can't get away from. Learning how to manage relationships with these people in a way that protects you and minimizes mental and emotional damage is what you can expect to get out of this episode.

Danielle has a wealth of knowledge on this topic. You can find more information by following her on TikTok @danielleradin and YouTube

This week we're discussing a significant vulnerability many people face, the battle with perfectionism.

Over the years, I've learned habits to incorporate into daily life to help combat perfectionism and minimize reoccurring negative thoughts. Some of these tactics are easily put into practice immediately, and others take more training and time to see results. But I promise you'll see results with consistent, genuine effort.

This week we sit down with Portland musician and Jay Si Proof band leader, Jeff Chilton. We discuss balancing being a musician, having a love life, and having an identity outside of your art. We asked and answered the hard question of why we connect to sad songs more easily than happy songs as consumers of music and other art forms. We chat about the hardships of making friends as an adult and finding your tribe, the importance of creative outlets as forms of emotional expression, and more.

Jay Si Proof's new single IRL dropped last week so be sure to go take a listen on Spotify or wherever you listen to jams and get your boogie on!

Until next week,
Kris

This week on Third Time’s Me is Part 3 of the series we did with guest Kristin Batykefer. You’ll definitely want to listen to them in order to get all your tea straight! So if you haven’t yet, go back and listen to episode #35 and then follow up with episode #36 before jumping into this one.

To give a little recap on last week, Kristin is back in her home state of Florida and things sort of seem to be getting better between her and her husband. It then comes to Kristin’s attention that the girl in the van next door, whom she’s been suspicious of having an affair with her husband for months, is all of sudden down the street and working out at the same gym as Kristin. Coincidence? I think not.

Enjoy this week’s episode!

Last week was Part 1 of an interview series I did with guest Kristin Batykefer. If you haven’t listened to last week’s episode then stop right now and go back to episode #35 titled The Girl in the Van Next Door to get all the juicy details of this interview. For the many of you that already listened to Part 1, here's a quick recap of where we left off…. Kristin is a young soon-to-be single mom that went through one hell of traumatizing separation from her husband of 9 years. As if finding out that your partner and the father of your child is having an affair and has been hiding it from you for an entire year isn’t traumatic enough…. Add on to that that you were at the time, living out of a travel van with your husband, 2-year-old daughter, and your dog and the mistress of this affair is a fellow van traveler (who just happens to be a pretty famous travel blog influencer) who was actively pursuing a friendship with you AND is married herself… all while sleeping with your husband. You can’t make this stuff up guys!

So go back and listen to last week’s episode before you kick off Part 2 so that you don’t miss any important parts of this crazy roller coaster of a ride story.

There will be a part 3 next week which is the part of this conversation where Kristin shares where she’s at today, how co-parenting with her soon-to-be ex-husband is coming along, what more she’s learned through this experience about herself and how she’s creating a life for herself that prioritizes her happiness in this next chapter.

Don't forget to leave a star rating on the show and share this episode with a friend!

Enjoy part two of the tea this week friends!

Imagine packing your entire life up into a van in order to fulfill your dream of full-time traveling through the beautiful country of North America with your husband, baby and dog. Sounds like an adventurous dream, doesn't it? A dream indeed for the first two years. Then... comes year three, and suddenly, this freedom-packed chosen lifestyle turned quickly into a nightmare for travel blogger Kristin Batykefer when she had suspicions about her husband. Signs were beginning to lead to some sort of affair with a neighboring traveler they had met on the road. Is it just inappropriate flirting? Is it an emotional affair? Has it turned sexual? Tune in this week for part one of this interview series to find out.

This week on the pod we're talking about the mourning of our exes. Some people can be friends with their exes, some can't stand to hear their ex's name whispered from across the room, and some people are somewhere in between. Where do you stand? And what are your thoughts on your partner being friends with their ex? It truly depends on your personal experiences which I'm chatting through openly this week.

Cheers My Friends,

This week on the pod we're talking about the internal battle of feeling obligated to keep certain people in your life or maintain certain relationships even when that relationship makes you feel icky or depletes your energy levels. If there is someone in your life that you consistently do not feel mentally and emotionally safe being around, then there’s nothing wrong with creating boundaries or sometimes needing to go as far as cutting them out completely.

Sending love,
Kris

This week I'm unpacking some experiences and emotions on the topic of fitness and how our exercise routine can be healthy and a source of motivation in our lives.... but how it can also be a source of covering up pain and self-doubt. This is something that I've been processing a lot the last 6 months in terms of how my (what became an) unhealthy obsession with over exercise and physique goals got a bit out of hand without me knowing it at the time. I'm sharing some personal stories about what was going on during this time and how I've brought myself to healthier balance and molded a loving relationship with my body.

Reminder to always be kind to yourself and carve out space to step back and reflect once in a while. It's so important in order to maintain equilibrium with mind, body and spirit.

In this week's episode we talk about the experience traveling internationally alone for the first time. Up to this point, I had travelled domestically alone many times... but traveling outside of the U.S. by myself as a 28-year old woman was a completely new experience.

I had been dreaming about a solo international trip for a few years so when I had the opportunity to escape the chaos in Austin in the midst of a toxic breakup from hell, I jumped right on it and had the absolute time of my life!

I've done some international solo travel since this trip in September 2020 and highly recommend everyone at some point in their life embark on a solo adventure. There's a peace that comes with having no one else's agenda to accommodate outside of your own. And there's something so incredibly grounding about learning to really enjoy your own company in solitude. You learn a great deal about yourself.

Enjoy!

In part 3 of (ex) fiancé #2 we talk post-breakup. As I shared with you guys on my Instagram last week, this was an extremely terrifying and exhausting time.

In part 2 of this series I open up about uncovering the affair of my ex. I knew for months something was off and eventually got to a point where I had no doubt he was cheating; but I wasn't willing to walk away until I had answers for the sake of my own sanity.

That's what narcissists are masters at - making you feel like YOU'RE the crazy one and that all the problems and red flags are in your insecure little head. I was determined to get answers and know the truth for myself to shut this door forever.

Spoiler alert: he wouldn't let me close that door just yet. Believe it or not, there's more.
