XLR cables have three conductors

1. Ground wire. This is the shield around the cable and it has continuity with the metal XLR connectors as well as pin number 1 inside the XLR connector. Strip this shield back to access the remaining two conductors (red and black sometimes red and white) and cut the ground shield off entirely and insulate it so that it can not make contact with any part of the audio system or bike. This ground conductor is the return path for a 48 volt phantom microphone power circuit and plays no part in our project. We want to eliminate it all together.
2. Red wire (XLR pin number 2) is the positive audio signal line and should be connected to pin number 1 on the two pin male Molex connector.
3. Black (or in some cases white) wire (XLR pin number 3) is the negative signal line and should be connected to pin number 2 on the Molex connector.
