019 - Tom Coupe is a construction artist from Victoria. He has been working in the Tiny House industry for 7 years, and for 4 years he has been focusing on building bushfire resilient Tinys.

Tom has lived Tiny, lived off-grid and spent most of his life living in and around bushfire zones and fire-affected communities. He has recently displayed some of his work at both of the Sydney and Melbourne Tiny Homes Expo’s and can be found online under the name TC Tiny.

In Australia, the reality is that there are areas around the country that are bushfire prone, and I wanted to bring Tom on the show today to share more about tiny homes and bushfire resilience with you.

In this conversation we talk about:

  • What materials, methods and fireproof measures make a tiny house bushfire resilient
  • Materials that Tom doesn’t recommend to use in a tiny house for bushfire resistance
  • Fireproofing strategies outside the tiny home and on surrounding land
  • Common misconceptions around bushfire resilience
  • The demographic of people who should consider living in bushfire-resistant homes… and more!
