Welcome to our first SLAP (Stupid Laws and Policies) Segment! We’ll bring you shows about absurd legal statutes- past, present and in-legislature. No corner of America is immune! On today’s show, we discuss Arizona Senate Bill 1074, which was signed into law during the 2022 legislative session. This statute expands the scope of dental practice to include the administration of botox and dermal fillers for aesthetic reasons.

Why is it stupid?

• No obvious stakeholders’ meetings were held, to include doctors and nurses who work in this arena. Thus, eliminating input and valuable insight. But mostly, it appears to be a back-door, covert deal.
• With thousands of laws fighting to be dropped into the hopper every legislative session and only 100 or so passing, THIS is what made it through every hurdle along the way? We have inflation, employment issues, a housing crisis, rent increases, landlord greed, gas gouging, infrastructure issues, hundreds of people moving into Maricopa County every day, a border disaster, human trafficking, homelessness, opioids, a drought and subsequent impending energy crisis… and THIS is what the Arizona legislature deems to be a priority.
