This is a redo of a video I did last year. I felt it important to clarify a point of confusion.

Here's the important thing to clarify:

The potential confusion can come when non-working spouse's 65th birthday falls within the three calendar months prior to the retiring pilot's 65th birth month. (EX: Pilot turns 65 in July and spouse's birthday is in April, May or June). This means the retiring pilots birth month falls in the later half of the non working spouse's initial enrollment period. If both retiring pilot and spouse wait to sign up for Medicare in the pilot's 65th birth month (common technique to save a month of Medicare premiums), the spouse's coverage will be delayed by one or two months (it won't start the first of the next month).

How can this happen? It can happen if the non-working spouse follows Medicare's guidelines for signing up in the special enrollment period versus the initial enrollment period.

For official Medicare information always refer to: www.medicare.gov and/or an official Medicare Representative. This information can change and, as I point out here, it can be interpreted different ways.
