Episode 3 - productive past times

Your job does not define you, What you do outside of your regular 9-5 is what defines you.

If you are not very satisfied with what you do for a career your pastimes will be even more important to help you live a full life

I have a list of 4 things I deem as essential in everyday life and should be part of your routine outside of your work

*something for your body

*Something for your mind

*something for your wallet

*something for your soul

1* Something for your body

I am going, to be honest, this one is important. Not only for your confidence in life but just your general health.

This is the thing I struggle with the most. Every morning between 12:00 and 1:00 I get this urge to do something. Most of the time I just end up doing two sets of barbels lifts and then sitting back down again, but the attempt is there.

My friends find something that can help you stay fit. This might be running for some people, Pilates, gym whatever as long as it gives you a bit of mobility. That “refreshed” feeling after a gym session is incredible. Get those endorphins pumping! Exercise is also a proven way to help reduce stress.

This is certainly one of the areas I will be developing more this year.

2* Something for your mind.

Humans are like plants… you are either growing/developing or you are dying, there is no in-between.

Your mind needs two things *something to keep you sharp and * something you do to relax

something to keep you sharp

Learn a new language, a new skill as long as it lets you learn something. I have always had some desire to learn to code, I want to learn all about Python and how to write code using this. Language learning can also prove valuable for your prospects!

It will help you connect better with the culture of the people in the country you find yourself in, or might prove useful if you ever move to a country where the language you are learning is spoken.

something to relax /destress

Video games, Netflix, reading books are whatever you need to relax. Just be careful not to waste too much time doing something unproductive. I oftentimes find myself regretting a three-hour PlayStation session.

*Something for your Wallet

In Hong Kong, 44% of people aged 25 to 34 have a side hustle. A side hustle is any activity you do outside of your job that earns or potentially could earn you money.

This is where a lot of people develop their passions into businesses. I have a few side hustles. Some generate small amounts of money, others are more long-term plans that require more in-depth planning.

You have a lot of options here! Teach English, trade stocks, NFTs, crypto, buy and sell items, drop shopping the list is very long!

*Something for your soul

Friends this is arguably the most important pastime.

My life today is completely different from what it was a few years ago and it is all because of God.

People oftentimes neglect their spiritual side. As a Christian, maintaining a relationship with God is a very important part of my life. Go to church, find a community of like-minded individuals, read the bible or just pray.

My wife is constantly helping me and reminding me how important this is.

Just as a side note, if any of you are interested we have a Men’s group that meets once a week on Thursdays over Zoom. If you are seeking a Christian band of brothers, please let me know!

My friends that is all we have time for today. Please be sure to listen to our next episode in 2 weeks.  ! You can us at temperedpodcast@gmail.com
