I’ve talked to a lot of ol timers that bred horses and always told me the second dam was the most important part of the pedigree. I’m real big on maternal lines. In fact, I believe any decent sire will do, but your mare is your horse. Maternal lines are everything. Every great stud has a great momma and every great mare has a great momma. This also explains why sometimes good and bad traits seem to skip generations.
