5 Things you should not do in Software Development

1. Don’t rush

2. Re-read the problem more than once.

3. If it doesn’t make sense to you then re-write the problem in your own words and get it checked
4. Ask questions if you don’t understand
5. The first solution might not be the best

6. Break down the problem into smaller problems but try not over abstract

7. Don’t panic

8. Bugs can be solved

9. A computer only does what it is told to do
10. Others have come before you and others will replace you
11. If you can’t think of the solution then walk away but always come back

12. Software development is huge so take your time

13. Don’t worry

14. We all make mistakes. As long as you learn from them then you are improving

15. Keep away from the trends and focus on what you are having fun with
16. We all learn at different speeds and different levels.
17. At the start, don’t worry about how long you take

18. You don’t need to learn everything - you can’t

19. Don’t over do it

20. Learn to pump the breaks if you are reaching burnout

21. Holidays are holidays. Hands off the code
22. Learn how to identify burn out
23. Keep doing other things you enjoy outside coding

24. Socialise with other coders out side of work

25. Don’t over think it

26. Over abstracting a solution is a very big and common mistake

27. Its just syntax, just written in a different order
28. Learn the basics first before jumping into the deep end
29. You can learn by listening, watching, coding, and reading
30. Keep a log of what you’ve learnt and look back at your progression
