Dave Wyner is a National Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist, and Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional. He has his own private practice and he’s passionate about helping people rebuild their lives and thrive again after painful losses or traumatic experiences. Dave tells Erika about the fork in the road he was faced with early in life and how he chose the “wrong” fork. More than two decades later, he made a choice to change his life after a series of traumas. He describes how there comes a moment when the discomfort of staying in the same place is greater than changing, when the status quo becomes unsustainable. Dave discusses what trauma is and how it can affect us if we ignore it, and also what happens to our bodies when we are stuck in the fight, flight or freeze response. He suggests ways to process and release this energy as well as the importance of a mindfulness practice. Dave underlines how amazing what he calls post-traumatic growth can be, as well as how we can find meaning even in our darkest moments.
