This same theme was preached on “Vision Sunday” (the day of our May Voters
Assembly). On that particular day the emphasis was upon a stewardship of time
and talents, calling every member to serve in some capacity. After all, if we do not
step forward to serve and support the ministries, how will they—those in our com-
munity, our school, and those who’ve wandered—hear? Now, six months later, we
again consider the question, only from the perspective of financial stewardship.
Our Scriptural focus for these last two Sundays of the church year will be 2
Corinthians 8 & 9. These two chapters are arguably Paul’s most thorough discus-
sion on money without even mentioning “the M-word.” Christians in Corinth had—
in one way or another—indicated to the apostle a refusal to participate in the fi-
nancial ministry of the church. So, St. Paul made his appeal.
