Ever since video games first turned mainstream back in the early 80s, the horror subgenre has been prominent within the industry with classics like the Atari’s Haunted House and the pcs Nostromo. While some of the standard horror tropes used to scare the audience were still applicable to this industry, being an interactive medium, however, did mean more challenges and variables that developers needed to overcome in order to create a sense of fear and panic in their player base. Because of this, developers have found very unique, genius, and in some cases fortunate, ways to scare their players and create a truly terrifying video game experience.
