The Cover Up
Are you guilty of a "cover up"? I am. Many times throughout my lifetime I have been involved in a "cover up". When I was a young boy I once set off a firecracker in the house while my parents were gone. I had to "cover up" by "cleaning up". I had to clean the residue off of the floor.
I have also been involved in a "cover up" by hiding dirty clothes or sweeping some dirt under the rug. It seems like for the last few years I have been involved in a "cover up" in regards to the clothes that I wear. It seems that if I wear loose fitting clothes my chest that is now around my waist is "covered up" and less conspicuous!
Today while eating lunch in a local restaurant, I overheard a man say "love covers a lot of mistakes". Again, I am guilty. I have relied on my wife's love over the years to cover my many mistakes in being a husband and father. I trusted her love to keep me out of the proverbial dog house!
But, the biggest "cover up" that I have been involved in is found in 1 Peter 4:8–9 (kjv), “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. How often through the years have my sins and indiscretions been covered by love? I am not just talking about the love of others, but the love of Jesus! For it is through His amazing love that He is able to forgive (cover) my sins when I ask for forgiveness. Isn't it great to know that there is a love that is that great?
