"Shouldn't we start small and work our way up to the 'Greatest Command?'" Mike and Holly suggest just the opposite. We start with the Greatest Command, becoming a loving or good person, which will then enable us to better follow the other teachings of Jesus for everyday Christian living. This is why we start with the greatest.
There are steps involved in becoming a loving person, such as submitting our will, which will prove very helpful when we decide to take on other specific teachings from Jesus such as forgiving others, or dealing with our anger.
