RPA technology has been a popular topic over the last three to five years lead by business needs eliminating repetitive tasks from their employees day-to-day so they can focus on more creative workflows.
As automation technology is becoming mainstream on the market some common challenges among organizations are related to time and cost investment.
Traditional RPA Vendors have set a high price model with:
· Per bot licensing annual subscriptions
· Development/implementation costs
· Maintenance and ongoing support of the bots
The licensing model of these traditional RPA vendors limits the number of automations an enterprise can afford, making it challenging to scale past a certain threshold.
RPA at a smaller scale has immediate ROI, but when it comes to enterprises with automations that range is from 100 to 500, they can run into “spend creep,” nullifying the ROI of their bots.
“When you get to automation 10 or 20…it gets harder to squeeze out that ROI when you’re paying for licensing, development and to maintain the bots,” Ali Chaudry explains.
Because of these frictions, larger companies find it hard to scale their RPA program and have become more selective with which automations they implement.
“[You] have tools that allow you to build automations, to run automations and then you have the management component…these automation platforms have licenses for all of that,” says Karan Sehgal.
“As the ecosystem matures, there’s a trend emerging in creating bots without licensing, which eliminates the extra expense to run those automations,” Karan explains.
By choosing an RPA platform with a zero-licensing model, companies can automate more processes without draining their budgets on each bot they have in production.
This option provides flexibility for both large and small companies to:
· Develop their automations in-house
· “Rent-out” a developer
· Add unlimited bots
Automation technology aims to eliminate the 30 percent of mundane, grunt work out of an employee’s typical workday. The result is that employees can reinvest that time towards higher-value activities like business development and analytics.
