The French government recently announced that it would make birth control free for all women under 25 from 1st January 2022, thus expanding a scheme that currently targets ladies under 18 years old because surveys show a decline in the use of contraception among certain young women due to financial reasons.
For a continent with a large population and very limited development rate, you’d think that contraception would be readily available and leveraged in Africa. But this is not so as about 24% of women of reproductive age have an unmet need for modern contraception and nearly 50% of unmarried women in Nigeria do not have access to modern contraceptives.
Steps that may be taken by governments to promote access to contraceptive measures and improve these figures are discussed in this episode.
