This book is a compelling, deeply personal narrative that delivers a unique view into the realities of the American Farm. Beth covered agriculture and farming as a journalist; however, the reality of being a new farmer with her husband was an eye opener. The first challenge was to negotiate with her father-in-law, who is reluctant to hand over control of the land. They have to find somewhere to slaughter the grass-finished beef and weather the losses of a failed oat crop. Through her personal struggles, she reveals the larger story of American agriculture and explores how a more economically and environmentally sustainable system may become possible.
