Meet Steph, A Wife and Mama with an incredible story, her baby girl was born at just 27 weeks gestation. Back in January this year Steph was suffering from Covid and what she thought was a rally bad case. Eventually after days of excruciating symptoms and starting to worry for the health of her baby Steph was taken into the Emergency Department.

It was then that doctors quickly realised not only was Steph suffering from Covid, she also had HELLP Syndrome. HELLP syndrome is a rare pregnancy complication. It is a type of preeclampsia and has similar symptoms. Early diagnosis is critical because serious illness and even death can occur in about 25% of cases. Most often, the definitive treatment for women with HELLP syndrome is the delivery of their baby and the placenta and thats exactly what happened next for Steph.

Soon after she was rushed down via ambulance to the Royal Women's Hospital, awaiting her husband who was also about to be out of isolation. 48 hours on their baby girl Addie was born, she was rushed off into the NICU ( where she would stay for 3 months) & Steph was taken into ICU.

In this episode we discuss this incredibly traumatic event, not only did Steph almost lose her own life, the health of her baby was at risk and many scary & traumatic events followed this in Addie's time in the NICU. We speak about Steph being essentially robbed of a 'normal' pregnancy & birth and how she has processed it all as we inch closer to the 1 year mark of Addie's Birth.
