5 years ago at just 26 years old Ash Hamm was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. What started out as a sore bloated stomach, quickly escalated over the following weeks. Doctors suspecting a food intolerance, pregnancy or natural weight gain - Ash knew it had to be something else. Unable to eat or drink at this point, she was pleading with GPs/Doctors to help her, after many attempts and trips to the emergency department she was eventually referred to a local Gynaecologist for an Ultrasound.
Ash was then diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, Immediately admitted into hospital to drain the leaking fluid from her ovaries. They later drained 11 litres of fluid from her growing abdomen, finally an explanation for the inability to eat or drink. In this episode Ash walks us through the diagnosis, her painful surgeries resulting in the loss of her ovaries.
We talk about her Chemo therapy and treatment and the confronting conversations and statistics she was faced with during those months. Ash gives us insight into her mindset when she was in those trenches and the immense gratitude she feels for her everyday life.
Finally we chat about her miracle baby Paddy! When told she had lost her ovaries, Ash's sister offered to donate her eggs to enable Ash and her husband a chance at their own family. We speak about this incredible journey, her pregnancy and love for every single part of motherhood.
