What do you do after you have been anointed for a purpose or task? What do you do once you realized the calling that has been placed on your life? That is what we will learn from David’s life in this episode of “A King in the Making”.

David is one of the most iconic figures in all of scripture. A young shepherd who becomes the greatest king Israel would ever know. A man of confidence…in himself yes…but even more in the God in whom he placed his trust. David exudes confidence because he knows God is with him. He is not seeking glory or fame…he does not desire to be king…yet it finds him nonetheless. What is it about this man that God would choose Him to be king, and despite his many mistakes, God refers to him as a man after God’s own heart. Let’s jump in and look at some lessons from a king in the making.

I love Sukkot because it speaks of hope, and celebrates a time we should all look forward to. A time of peace and joy as Jesus dwells among His people once more and rules over all the earth in person. What a great day that will be. In fact, in ancient Israel, Sukkot was such a joyful feast that everyone looked forward to…so they simply referred to it as “The Feast”. It symbolized a renewed relationship with God…that the sins of the people were atoned for and their relationship was renewed with their Creator. Sukkot reminds us of the importance of just being in God’s presence and rejoicing over who He is and what He has done and will do for you!

The 6th feast or festival of the Lord is known as Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur means Day of Atonement, and among the Jewish people, it is the holiest day of the year. Everything leads up to this moment. This is the big day when they make atonement for their sins according to the Law of God as written in the Old Testament. Pre-Christ, this was how God instructed them to make atonement for their sins as a nation/ people. Let's dig in and take a look at how Jesus fulfilled the sacrificial system requirements and became the ultimate atonement for our sins!

Leviticus 23:23-25…The Lord said to Moses,“Say to the Israelites: ‘On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts.Do no regular work, but present a food offering to the Lord.’” The book of numbers and Nehemiah refer to it in a similar way. They are told to celebrate this sabbath day with the sounding of the trumpets…but it is a day of rest in which they are to do no regular work and present a food offering to the Lord.

The 4th feast is called Shavu’ot or festival of weeks (7 weeks to be exact). Christians have come to know it as Pentecost. The day the Holy Spirit was poured out on the believers. The day the Church was born essentially. But its origins, biblically speaking, go back to the Exodus, and more specifically the time when the Torah was given on Mount Sinai following the Exodus. Shavu’ot is directly linked to Passover and the Feast of First Fruits. In the same way, Jesus' death and resurrection is directly connected to Pentecost and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

We are at a point now where the 1,000 year period of the Millennial Kingdom has come to an end. The kingdom itself still exists, with Jesus on the throne, and will continue until the time of the Great White Throne Judgement of God (where all of the dead/ unbelievers are judged before God). The devil is now set loose to tempt and deceive the gentile nations of the world once more. His mission and purpose is to deceive the majority of the world into thinking that God has unjustly rewarded Israel. He will trick them into believing that they should attack Israel, more specifically Jerusalem and the temple, and take all the spoils for themselves because they deserve it.

I am excited to cover this final battle, the war to end all wars so to speak, and the 7 years that follow. Yes, if you are not familiar, you might be surprised or unaware that there is another 7 year period after the 1,000 year reign of Christ. When people get an abbreviated or cliff notes version of the end times, this extra 7 year period is often left out… but more on that in the next episode. We will pick up today back in Revelation where we left off in chapter 20. We are at the end of the 1,000 year reign of Christ. The time period for the Millennial Kingdom has come to an end, and now it is time for Satan to be set free once more so that he and all unbelief can be destroyed forever.

Ezekiel goes on to tell us that believers will be able to see Jesus in the Temple when they come to worship and that will be during 2 Feasts or Festivals, each Sabbath day, and New Moon. Those are the times when we will be allowed to come before Him and see His glory and worship before Him. Under Mosaic Law there were 7 feasts each year…all of which where a reference to various aspects of Jesus’ ministry of redemption. But only the first and last of the feasts are kept active for the millennial kingdom because of their spiritual significance. Also, I don’t believe it is a coincidence that the 2 feasts held during the Kingdom is the First and Last of 7 feasts under the Law…Since that is so symbolic of God being the First and Last or Alpha and Omega.

Today we jump into the details of Temple, the order of operations, worship/ sacrificial system, and Kingdom law. This temple will be the center of life for the Kingdom. From worship to governance, it will all be centered on the temple in Jerusalem which sits on the Mountain of the Lord (which is above all other mountains). When it comes to the Kingdom temple layout/ description... there is only one place in scripture to find it…and that is in Ezekiel!

Today we will take a look at the people or should I say the nature and behavior of the people in the Millennial Kingdom. There are some interesting questions regarding this aspect of the kingdom. Some of these questions will be answered and some are left a mystery. We know that there will be 2 groups that receive resurrected or glorified bodies…the Old Testament saints and the Church Saints. There will also be 2 groups that will still have natural bodies…the Jewish and Gentile believers that lived through the Tribulation. No one enters the kingdom unless they are believers. However, those born during the time of the Kingdom will be true “Millennials” by the way…but they will be born into sin and will need salvation just like you and I today. That raises even more questions…so let’s jump in, and see what answers we can find!

Did Mary (Jesus’ mother) have any idea of the depth and breadth of what Jesus said to her when He said, “I make all things new again”. Did she realize how far that statement extended. The earth is in shambles upon His return and in preparation for the Kingdom, He made things new again in several ways. One of those ways is the redesign of the landscape and especially Israel’s borders. Have you ever noticed the borders of the land God promised Abraham has never been fully attained by Israel? That’s because God was telling them what the borders of Israel would be for their descendants during the Millennial Kingdom. Let’s jump in, and look at how God will once again keep His promises, and fulfill His covenant.

As we begin to look at the details of the Millennial Kingdom, you will notice that in Revelation 20:6-7 there is only mention of before and after. The entire 1,000 years lies between those 2 verses. However, we can find details on the Kingdom in the Old Testament and the New Testament. They are spread out from Genesis to Malachi, and in the New Testament it is mentioned 160 times (125 in the gospels alone). The truth is the Bible speaks extensively about the coming Kingdom. In the O.T. it is a major theme...second only to the Messiah.
Jesus talked of entering the kingdom, living in the kingdom, ruling in the kingdom, and having an inheritance in the kingdom. Ironically, many people have a limited understanding of the Millennial Kingdom…largely based on a "hallmark theology". This is our future, our inheritance, our reward…why would we not want to truly understand it? Maybe you are not sure where to look. My goal is to help shed some light on the awesomeness of what is our inheritance. Let’s jump in and see what scripture says about the Millennial Kingdom…

We pick up with the Revelation chapter 20, as well as some of the prophets, as we finish out the 75 day interval period leading up to the Millennial Kingdom. Last time, we discussed how the interval period was broken into 2 blocks of time. First is a 30 period and the other is a 45 day period. Previously, we covered the 30 day and began the 45 day period. In the last episode we ended with showing you the first group to receive resurrected eternal bodies. That group was the Old Testament saints. We know that the church received theirs at the rapture. Let’s pick up with Revelation chapter 20 where John shows us the next group that receives their resurrected bodies.

Upon Jesus’s return the temple stands unclean, and the abomination of desolation (which is the image or statue of the beast) is still in the temple. The temple must be cleansed if Jesus is to enter it and make it the center of life for the kingdom. In addition to all the destruction of the judgements, there is a massive amount of dead bodies everywhere due to the final battle. So, before the kingdom can officially begin there is a time preparing…or should I say repairing the earth…and cleansing the temple. Also, during this time certain groups will be given their new eternal bodies, the sheep and goats will be separated, and the first judgement…known as the judgement seat of Christ. When does all this happen? Daniel tells us there is a 75 day period between the end of tribulation and the start of the Millennial Kingdom. It is during this time that preparations are made so the Kingdom of Christ can officially begin. There is much to discuss so let’s get started…

Today we pick up with what John describes or summarizes regarding his vantage point in Heaven. The Marriage Supper of the Lamb/ celebration has finished, and Jesus is given the go ahead by the Father to return with His bride (the Church) to earth. The first time He came as a servant, a gentle lamb, bringing salvation and redemption to mankind…the greatest act of love ever displayed. There is no other faith in the world that can boast or make that claim. Nevertheless, this time He comes as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This time He comes to wage war against the wicked, save His people, and rule as the rightful King. This time no one will challenge His rule, but all will bow before Him.

This final battle is not a single moment where Jesus returns on the Mt. Of Olives and destroys the armies of the Antichrist. He does do that but there is so much more happening over days and weeks. There are a series of events leading to that final moment when the Antichrist and his armies are confronted head on by Jesus and they subsequently meet their end. So let’s jump into those details that surround the famous battle of Armageddon. But in order to do that we must once again visit several of the prophets to get those details. John doesn’t write about these details because they have already been given by the prophets. So we will look at the details John gives in chapter 19 regarding the return of Christ the church with Him couple with the details from the prophets to give us a more complete picture….

We are now at a point where Babylon has fallen completely. The spirit of Babylon, represented by the woman known as the harlot of Babylon, has been destroyed along with the physical city and governmental and commercial structure of Babylon. God is the greatest chess player of all time, brilliantly moving all the pieces on the board, forcing all His enemies into a corner. Let’s jump into chapter 19 where we see a celebration going on in heaven over the destruction of Babylon, blessing to those invited to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, and the end of the enemy and his armies.

This episode is about the rebellion against Babylon just prior to the completion of the 7th bowl judgement. At the fulfillment of God's word regarding Babylon He gathers an army from the north and prompts them to lay siege to Babylon while the Antichrist is away. This army destroys the land and kills anyone they come across. God uses His enemies to do His will regarding Babylon. These details can be found in Jeremiah and Isaiah, and that is what we will talk about today!

Today we finish up chapter 18 covering the threefold woe over the fall of Babylon, and the finality of Babylon’s doom. Then, we have one more short scene showing all of heaven rejoicing over the destruction of Babylon. After that comes the return of the King at the battle of Armageddon, and the triumph over the unholy trinity and his armies. That’s going to be epic for sure, but first we need to finish chapter 18. John is shown a scene that describes all those who benefitted from Babylon weeping and mourning over her destruction. Without Babylon they have nothing, and they fear what is going to happen to them now the Babylon is no more.

As we pick up with chapter 18 we will see the fall of the actual city or government of Babylon where the Beast ruled from. Babylon falls as God’s judgement is poured out destroying the great city along with all the others minus Jerusalem. God will call His people out of Babylon so they do not share in her destruction. Everything is leading us to the point where the beast and his armies gather at Armageddon to wage war against the returning King…the Lord of Lords.

Join me today as we finish up the rest of chapter 17, and unpack some important details to understanding this chapter and the book of Revelation. We now know that the symbolic woman here in chapter 17 is the Harlot of Babylon, the Mother of all false religions and idol worship. She is the essence of Babylon…an evil nature spawned from the devil himself to corrupt God’s creation. She is the mistress of Babylon The Great…which is symbolic of all false religions and pagan worship…they are the work of her hands. However, that comes to an end as you will see her described riding the scarlet beast, and will only be associated with him. We know the scarlet beast is the antichrist described in chapter 13, but his description has some important details to unpack. So let’s jump in and find out more about those details.

Today we will take a look at what the angel shows John regarding this spiritual Babylon known as the Harlot of Babylon. This woman is symbolic of the ungodly immoral nature or culture that Babylon gave birth to. It is the same immoral ungodly spirit that has corrupted practically every nation on the planet throughout history. It is an ungodly wicked nature that sprung out of Babel, which later became Babylon, but its source of origin is the devil himself. The devil has used the woman or ungodly spirit of Babylon to control and corrupt nations for thousands of years, but it is coming to an end with the return of Christ.

Today we finish up the last 3 bowls of wrath bringing God’s judgements to completion. Once all 7 bowls are poured out you will see that God, in fact, gives man a preview of hell itself, and what eternal torment will be like for those who reject God and Jesus and follow the beast and worship his image. Thank God, as believers, we will never have to worry about experiencing eternal torment. However for those that will, God gives them a preview with the final judgements…known as the bowls of wrath.

Chapter 16 begins with the command from God instructing the 7 angels to go and pour out His final judgement on the earth. These judgements are intense, and are very much focused on those who followed the beast and took his mark. These bowls filled with God’s wrath will be like nothing the world has seen before or will ever see again. You will see that God is consistent with His methods and repeatedly uses similar events to exact His judgement. You will also see the striking similarity and reference to the plagues of Egypt and the Exodus. The thing about God’s consistency is that there is no mistaking who is doing it, and that is the point. God wants everyone to know it is Him...

Today we take a look at chapter 15 where we see John describe another sign that he sees in Heaven. Now, this sign is significant because it sets the stage for the final act. It lets us know that the end of God’s judgement is near and the return of Christ is almost here. John sets the stage for the final act by introducing us to the 7 Angels that carry the 7 plagues and are given the 7 bowls of God’s wrath to pour out on the world. Today we look at the message of the 3 angels, and the soul harvest that begins as we continue through chapter 14. A line has been drawn, and man can no longer remain on the fence or be neutral. Everyone must decide which side they are on. Either you accept the mark and follow the beast, or you chose God and trust in Him. After removing all the evangelists, God reminds us that He doesn’t need man in order to get the gospel out to the world. He has never needed us to accomplish His purposes. If God wants the gospel to get to someone He will get it to them regardless of man’s involvement. God will accomplish His plan…He just lets us be a part of it so that we can be blessed by it. Let’s dig into the rest of chapter 14 as we see God offer one final opportunity to chose Him, then issue a warning to those who don’t, and begin the reaping of the harvest.

Today we move into chapter 14, and we see the scene shift again. We move away from what the devil is doing and focus in on something God is doing or has done. There are a few groups in the Tribulation period that we have been following: the gentile believers, the Orthodox Jews that hold fast to the Law of God, the Remnant of Israel (all the Jews that find salvation in Messiah) that is protected at Botzrah or Petra, and of coarse the 144,000 Jewish evangelists. Everyone else just become pawns in satan’s little plan. As we dive into chapter 14, John focuses in on one group in particular. This group as completed their purpose, and becomes the first fruits of the harvest. Let’s take a look at chapter 14…

Today we introduce the the final character or piece to the unholy trinity that Satan is putting together. Today we move into chapter 13 where John will now describe the beast of the sea and the beast of the earth. This episode will focus on the beast of the sea and Monday we will pick up with the beast of the earth. As John begins what we know as chapter 13 the scene cuts away to another story line that will explain what we read in chapter 11 about the beast who kills the 2 witnesses. So now we will see that what takes place in chapter 13 actually happens prior to the 2 witnesses being killed. Like I said before, what we cover in chapter 10-15 happens around the mid tribulation point in our timeline. These events are overlapping and happening simultaneously. So you will see the story cut away from one story line and pick up with another story line happening at the same time. One scene giving support to the other. Today we begin by discussing a battle that breaks out in heaven between the good angels and the fallen angels. The result of this battle leaves the devil or dragon enraged and angry. This causes him to lash out at something that is close to God’s heart…the Woman or the people of Israel. When that becomes a dead end he turn his wrath toward the only thing left her offspring. I’m telling you, this passage is like something straight out of an action movie. It is intense and will keep you on the edge of your seat if you allow yourself to truly visualize the magnitude of what John is describing. With that said let’s jump into the rest of Chapter 12.

Now we can jump into the first part of chapter 12 regarding the woman and the dragon. This chapter is intense and rich with content, so we will break it up into 2 parts. Today we will identify the woman, the child, and the dragon while helping to make sense of what it is happening and where it fits in the timeline. We will look at how the woman is protected from the dragon causing the dragon to becomes enraged and will ultimately go after her offspring and wage war against them.

And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” They are “the two olive trees” and the two lamp stands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. Today we take a look at an odd segment of John’s revelation. We see a mighty angel with a little scroll that John is later told to take and eat it. The scroll tastes sweet at first, but becomes bitter to the stomach. This is an interesting passage with a lot of imagery, and I will do my best to make it clear. We will look at this passage’s connection to the book of Daniel, which will give insight to what John sees. We will see how what happens with Daniel is continued with John, and possibly where the little scroll comes from and what is on it. If you’re ready lets jump into chapter 10!

The 6th angel steps up, and blows his trumpet unleashing the 2nd woe judgement. Verse 13-16 says…The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God. 14 It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” 15 And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. 16 The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. Today we take a look at the 5th trumpet being sounded, which is the first woe judgment. Here John describes seeing a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. It is common for the Bible to use the word “star” when referring to angels. In this case, the star who had fallen refers particularly to a fallen angel. Some say that it is referring to Satan himself, while others say it is a high ranking demon or fallen angel working under Satan. Either way this fallen angel (Apollyon) is given authority to open the abyss, and unleash a punishment that will last 5 months. The people without God’s protection will not be able to escape it. They will want to die, but death will allude them. Despite their constant refusal to turn from their wicked ways God shows mercy. Let’s dive into this 5th trumpet and see what we can learn today.

Today we see the first 4 trumpets being sounded. When these trumpets are sounded they unleash a particular judgement that results in massive devastation to specific parts of the earth. The angels play a big role in carrying out the judgements, and here we see that when something happens in heaven symbolically or literally it results in a cataclysmic event happening on earth. It is easy to get lost in the symbolism and imagery. So, let’s focus on the results, and see if we can make sense of it all. Today we pick up with Jesus opening the seventh seal, and revealing the next series or wave of judgments known as the seven trumpets. Something unique happens when Jesus opens this seal that is different from the others. Also, there is a precursor to the trumpet judgements beginning. It is called the Golden Censer, and it brings a warning judgement of what is to come next. You can also look at it like a start gun that is fired to begin a race. The Golden Censer is thrown to earth signaling the 7 angels to began sounding their trumpets. The first 4 trumpets bring judgement and devastation to the earth i.e., trees, land, water, sea life, etc., and the last 3 trumpets will directly affect mankind. Let’s jump in, and take a look at how all this unfolds.

Ok…So now we move on to chapter 7. This chapter takes a break from the devastating judgements, and shows us some really important details that should inspire, encourage, and motivate you in your faith. It is a picture or a glimpse of what is to come, things we long for, and a reminder that God’s plan won’t be stopped and the gospel will go forth into all the earth…even during the Great Tribulation. You will also see that when God removes the church He raises up a new group of evangelists to spread the gospel to every nation as it was intended from the beginning.

Today we are going to take a look at the opening of the 5th and 6th seal on the scroll. We see the souls of the saints, martyred for their faith, crying out to God for justice. We will also see a picture of world wide natural disasters like never before, and it will rock the planet to the point that all people regardless of money or status will hide and take refuge from the natural disasters. Here you see a glimpse of what God is doing as the people cry out to be hidden from the face of God and the wrath of the Lamb. They openly admit who it is that is judging them. Today we jump into chapter 6 where Jesus begins opening the seals on the scroll and dispensing God’s judgement. The portion that we will focus on is the first 4 seals. These 4 seals release what has come to be known as the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Here we see the introduction of the 4 Horsemen, and 1/4 of the world will fall to their devastation. Like I said before, where you see God’s judgement you also see His grace. Don’t get me wrong…these 4 horsemen are bad news, but if God allows 1/4 to fall that means He saved 3/4. He could wipe them all out but He doesn’t. He is trying to get them to see. Let’s take a look at these 4 Horsemen, and what God says about them.

Today we continue on with what John sees next in chapter 5. He sees Jesus standing at the center of the throne looking like a lamb that was slain and surrounded by the 4 beasts. The Lamb had 7 horns and 7 eyes which were the 7 Spirits of God. This chapter really is trying to convey why Jesus is the only one worthy to dispense God’s final judgment and why He is the only one worthy to rule over all. It focuses on how every person in Heaven, on Earth, under the Earth (as in Hell), and every creature every where will praise Yeshua for who He is and for what He has done and will do. No living thing will escape it and all will proclaim it. Chapter 5 makes it abundantly clear that Christ alone is worthy. Let’s jump in and praise Jesus for all that He is according to God’s Word.

In chapter 5 we see, once again, the presence of the Godhead or Trinity. However, the focus quickly shifts to Jesus from this point on. In this chapter we see the culmination of all scripture coming to fruition. God’s plan is coming to fulfillment and the truth of who Jesus is and has always been becomes very evident. Scripture has been building up to this point from the beginning and now the stage is being set for the final act. God has a scroll that is completely sealed up and no one can open it except Jesus…the Righteous Judge, the Lamb that was slain, the One whom all authority under Heaven has been given. Today’s episode will focus largely on the 4 living creatures around the throne of God. John sees the 4 living creatures flying around the throne who are singing Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come. They have 6 wings and eyes all around even under their wings. Each one has a different face. One has the face of a lion, another has the face of an ox/ calf, another has the face of a man, and another has the face of an eagle. These 4 beings are a special order of angels, and there is much to be said about them. All of it of course serves to show the glory of God and the masterpiece that is His plan.

Today we will take a look at the first part of chapter 4 verses 1-6. John gets a glimpse of Heaven and the most detailed description in all of scripture of the throne room of God. No one has ever seen face of God, so John is given imagery that he can comprehend. We will discuss the significance or meaning of the description of God, the 24 elders, the 100% presence of the Holy Spirit, and how this first part of Chapter 4 indicates that the church is in Heaven during this time. Today we're going to take a look at chapter 9 in the book of Daniel, and pay special attention to the 70 weeks that Daniel refers to regarding Israel’s punishment. Daniel reads the prophecy in the book of Jeremiah regarding the 70 year period that the Jews would be put out of their land so that it could rest, but at the end of that 70 year period they would be allowed back into their land to rebuild. Daniel connects that to the scripture regarding the land covenant and to the statue in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream regarding the Age of the Gentiles and concludes that the 70 year period of captivity by the Babylonians is the entire Gentile Age. God decides to send the angel Gabriel to help Daniel out with his timeline, and he gives Daniel more insight into the actual timeline for the Age of the Gentiles. The 70 weeks is actually 490 years because each week represents a 7 year period of time, and there are 70 seven year periods of time. That is what we are going to discuss today.

Based on our study of the first 3 chapters in Revelation we already know the we are in the Church Age, and that we are in the last period of the church age. However, we are also in the Age of the Gentiles. These 2 ages are currently running simultaneously, but he Age of the Gentiles started way back with Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonian Empire during the time of Daniel. The Church Age began with the Apostles after the resurrection of Jesus. For us to truly understand the times we are in, how they come to an end, and how we transition into the “Things that take place next” (covered in Revelation starting with chapter 4)…we must visit Daniel chapters 2, 7, & 9. With that said let’s jump to the Book of Daniel and unfold the details pertaining to the Age of the Gentiles.

Today we will take a look at the seventh and final letter that John writes to the church of Laodicea. The meaning of Laodicea can have a few variations, but ultimately it comes from 2 greek words…one meaning people and the other meaning just, or justice. It is a term used primarily in relation to legal jargon like a lawsuit. So, you could say that Laodicea means a people of justice or fairness. This city was prosperous and strong economically, and so was the church. They needed no help from any outside sources. They were self sufficient and self-reliant. They wanted for nothing. So why are they the only church of the 7 that gets no praise from Jesus? All they get is one big rebuke. Let’s find out what went wrong in this church that seemed to have everything.

Today we dive into the 6th letter that John writes to the 7 churches, and it is written to the Church of Philadelphia. We know that the name of this city is no secret or mystery. I means brotherly love, and was founded by King Eumenes II of Pergamon in 189 B.C. It was named Philadelphia because of his love for his brother and successor Attalus II. Today the city is known as Alasehir and is located in Turkey. This was a difficult place to live during the ancient times because of the repeated earthquakes that devastated the city. For those that stuck around it helped develop a sense of determination and perseverance that become important to living there. The Church of Philadelphia was persecuted greatly like Smyrna, but they remained true to the mission of the Church and like Smyrna they receive no rebuke. Let’s see what we can learn from the letter written to this small but mighty church.

Today we jump into the 5th letter that John is told to write, and it is written to the Church of Sardis. The meaning of this name is difficult to confirm, but some scholars believe it is translated as “Those Escaping” or “Remnant”. Which will make sense when we talk about its correlation to church history. This city was a strong fortified city at one point but is in ruins today. It lies approx. 60 miles northeast of Smyrna. The Church of Sardis was all about faith, but had no works. Jesus has a stern warning for the churches like this that have faith without works. As always, these rebukes are to the collective whole of the church and not the individual per say. Jesus is clear that those who are believers have nothing to fear. He will not blot their name out of the Book of Life. Let’s jump in and see what we can learn today from the 5th letter to the churches.

Today we will take a look at the 4th letter written to the church of Thyatira. In this letter we see another description of Jesus that John used in chapter 1. He is described as the The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze. Remember this indicates the piercing gaze of Jesus, that He sees all and nothing is hidden from Him. The feet of burnished bronze represents the fires of judgement. Like metal that is put through the fire to test its purity. Jesus praises them saying…I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first. However, the rebuke to this church is probably the lengthiest one of all the letters. Let’s jump in and see what we can learn from this letter to Thyatira.

We continue the journey through the Book of Revelation today by picking up with the 3rd letter written to the Church of Pergamum. This letter mirrors the 3 period in Church History. The persecution of the church by the Romans ends as Constantine makes Christianity the state religion. This introduces new problems that are covered in the letter to the Church of Pergamum. Jesus says these problems must be addressed or He will come with the 2 edged sword from His mouth (the Word of God) and He will wage war against those causing these problems. Let’s take a look this interesting letter and see what we can learn from it today!

So, today we pick up with the letter John writes to the church of Smyrna. This letter is different from the others. The others tend to have praise, rebuke, encouragement, warning, and promise of a reward. Not only is this the shortest letter of the 7, but it is focused solely on encouragement with the promise of not being touched by the second death. This letter is written in a way that would indicate that they are facing intense persecution. Jesus wants them to know that He sees their afflictions and to stay strong and there will be great reward. Unlike 5 of the other churches, this one doesn’t receive any rebuke by Jesus.

Each message begins with a slightly different description of Jesus, along with a praise and a rebuke, then a slightly different ending or reward for heeding His instruction. I was talking to my daughter when it struck me how little she knew about the end times and the hope of what is to come. From the rapture, to the tribulation period, to the 2nd coming, to the thousand year reign, to the day of judgement, to the new heaven and a new earth. Unfortunately, the Book of Revelation is often avoided and is seen as the book of doom and gloom. It is avoided because it is difficult to understand or apply to your life. It can seem a bit overwhelming and frightful to most. I want to share my take on it...one of hope, promises kept, justice, patient love, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances…I read Revelation with joy and excitement because I see the love of God and the promises of something better in it.

Today we are going to dive into the troubles we find ourselves in when we seek the wrong counsel. Ananias planned to sell the land and keep some of the money while deceiving everyone into thinking he gave everything. Acts 5:2 says that he did this with his wife’s full knowledge. He did what most husbands do…he asked for permission…LOL…seriously though, he likely sought her out and got her approval or support to carryout this deception. With the support of someone like his wife he deceived himself into thinking it was ok. It is plausible that he used her support to justify his plan. We often seek co-conspirators or supporters when we know what we are doing is wrong. We want someone else to tell us it’s ok…that we are justified or right in what we are doing.

Today, I want to take a look at a king who is…“Unlike All The Others”. During the time of the kings of Israel and Judah, there was not many that sought to serve God and follow His ways. We know that David was said to be a man after God’s own heart. He is regarded as the greatest king Israel ever had. But there is another king, a king unlike the others, one who sought to do right in the eyes of the Lord. The vast majority of the kings of Israel and Judah were wicked and did evil in the sight of the Lord, but not Josiah. 2 Kings 22:2…2 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.

Today, we are going to take a look at a man that is only mentioned briefly, but his heartfelt prayer to God became famous thousands of years later. If the Bible were a movie this guy would be one of the many additional actors that just happens to get one line in a not so interesting scene in the movie. His claim to fame is found tucked away in a genealogy mentioned in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10. However, this man of honor, whom the Bible refers to as more honorable than his brothers, gets one opportunity…one shot…and boy does he make it count. The only words of his recorded would later become known as the Prayer of Jabez.

Today, we are going to begin a series looking at some interesting characters in the Bible that are often overlooked or not given much attention. The first up is a guy by the name of Naaman. He was Commander of the Army of the King of Aram, and he has leprosy. This is an interesting story about a guy who goes to see the prophet Elisha, who he is told could help him, only to get frustrated with what is asked of him. When Naaman hears what he has to do to be healed, he gets angry because it is not what he expected. It is not how he envisioned it.

Today, I want to take a look at the next miracle of Jesus. Matthew doesn’t record much regarding this miracle, but he does record 2 opposing views. One view of the miracle comes from the people in the crowd. They are filled with awe and wonder…they are amazed by Jesus saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel”. Then you have the Pharisees who are the religious leaders in Israel. You would think they would be the most excited about seeing the power of God in their nation. Instead, they accuse Jesus of getting His power from Satan.

In today’s episode we take a look at the miracle story that was interrupted by the miracle we discussed yesterday. Jesus was on His way to Jairus’ house when He was interrupted by the woman who touched his cloak and was healed from her suffering. After addressing the woman Jesus continues on to the house of Jairus to tend to a 12 year old girl who had just died. There were some negative people around Jairus but Jesus shows him why we need to ignore some people and just believe!

Imagine going into battle with no clue on how to use the weapons you were given. Remember the movie series that came out many years ago with Tim Allen called the Santa Clause? In the movie there was a clause, some fine print/ little details, that he overlooked when becoming Santa, and it almost made him lose the right to be Santa. The other movies in that series had other clauses that were missed that caused him some trouble as well. But the important thing to take note of is the little details…the fine print so to speak. I believe there is some fine print in scripture that we overlook especially when dealing with things that God says He will do for us. Sometimes we neglect the part that God asks of us...while expecting Him to meet all our needs and wants.

Matthew 8:1-3…When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. As we pick up again with the miracles of Jesus we come to the miracle of the first great catch of fish that Jesus did from Peter’s boat just before calling Peter to follow Him. This is a really cool story that has some great teaching points tucked into it. You know there is something to be said about someone who may disagree or has a different plan…yet they surrender their will and say because you say so…I will do it. That’s respect…trust…humility…not to mention inspiring. Today we see God's abundant blessing when we chose to be a blessing!

Sometimes we stumble in our faith and can find ourselves acting like we use to before we were saved or before we really surrendered our will for God's will. As a parent, there are times when you correct your child for not listening. It isn't until they are hit with some consequences that they decide maybe it would be better to listen.
