I use this RPG trope taken from tvtropes.org, called "Background Music Override", to teach some simple but powerful Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques to defeat the negative self talk through adjusting and improving the "building blocks of reality". See, we hold memories, images, sounds, and so on in mental space and when we adjust the clarity, tone, volume, texture, distance, movement, etc of them, their strength changes. So moving something we don't like farther away in this mental space often lessens the impact. Making something more vivid and 3D often makes it a stronger feeling. Also, adding music can make things more impactful or even reduce the hold negative memories have on us.
I hope it helps!
