Who is Laura Nyro?
Laura Nyro (1947-1997) was an American songwriter, singer and pianist. She achieved critical acclaim with her own recordings, but the most commercially successful versions of her songs were covers by a wide array of artists, including Three Dog Night and Barbra Streisand. Exceptionally influential in the 1960s and 1970s, she inspired everyone from Joni Mitchell and Carole King to Elton John, Alice Cooper, Paul Stanley and Bette Midler. Nyro was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Eli and the Thirteenth Confession is her lone entry on the 2020 Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums list.
