According to the Gaming Commission of Ghana, the country's gambling industry generated over GHS 3.4 billion ($590 million) in revenue in 2019, with sports betting accounting for around 85% of the market. While there is limited data on the specific impact of gambling on Ghanaians, a survey of over 1,000 high school students in Ghana found that around 60% of respondents reported having gambled in the past year, with over 40% reporting weekly gambling. Experts have raised concerns about the potential for gambling to contribute to poverty and social problems in Ghana, particularly in low-income communities. Additionally, there are concerns about the potential for gambling addiction to lead to financial problems, mental health issues, and relationship difficulties. These issues highlight the need for greater awareness and on this episode we share our humble opinions.
