When health researchers look at anonymised patient data, they can usually only access structured data, the information entered into boxes on forms, rather than all the free notes taken in the course of appointments.
Now a research project led by Arlene Casey is not only trying to code these free notes in order to make it available to researchers, she is making sure the public consents at every stage.
This is just one example of the impact funding from the Data Driven Innovation initiative can have, using the superior data processing power of the Edinburgh International Data Facility and the research hub the Usher Institute.
