This episode covers the language used in and the conceptual basis for pathophysiology, including:  the characteristics of health and illness, risk factors, etiology and pathogenesis of a disease,  clinical manifestations and how lifespan, nutrition and genetics affect health.  Chronic disease is discussed as well as an overview of pathophysiologic mechanisms that can result in disease.  The study of epidemiology is introduced.
