The account of the resurrection we are going to look at this morning is from the Gospel of John. As we shall soon see, he was an eyewitness to the resurrection. He didn’t hear about it from other disciples, he witnessed it for himself. So in his account, we have a powerful testimony to the truth of these events. Throughout John’s Gospel, he writes in order to persuade us that about the truth of the gospel – that Jesus is indeed the Messiah and by believing in him, we would have gospel life (Jn 20:31). So when he describes the resurrection of Jesus to us in these verses that we are going to look at, his purpose is no different. He wants to convince us of the truth of these events in order that we may believe in Jesus and in doing so, have true life in him.
