This week in the Men In Progress series, host Dave Casey is joined by Paul Beck, Ted Hyde, and Michael Tuggle to talk about money. In today's episode they discuss why it's so difficult to give and how to live more generously. Men In Progress is a monthly series within the Life + God Podcast hosted by the United Methodist Men of Trietsch.
The founder of Methodism, John Wesley, shared three simple rules to live a faithful life: 1) Do no harm. 2) Do good. 3) Stay in love with God. Can the same three principles be applied to the way we read scripture? Today, Alyssa Robinson and Denise Robinson talk through helpful ways to approach the Bible that won't cause harm to yourself or others.
Christ is risen! Now what? Did you know that after Jesus's resurrection he was with us for a full forty days? Did you know that he appeared ten separate times to different groups of people? Rev. Karen Chraska and Alyssa Robinson walk through the events following Jesus's resurrection, a time that was difficult to process and understand because of the chaos and limited details.
Rev. Karen Chraska is our Assoc. Pastor of Worship Arts and leads us in beautiful song every Sunday. Holy Saturday is a day of Holy Week that we don't typically honor with a worship service in the Methodist tradition because there are so many differing views on what Jesus is doing the day before resurrection. Pastor Karen shares some thoughts for us to reflect on today as we prepare our hearts and minds for the risen Christ.
During Holy Week we remember the last supper Jesus had with his disciples on Maundy Thursday and commemorate the crucifixion of Christ on Good Friday, but what was happening on Saturday? Alyssa Robinson asks Rev. Gracie Millard about different theories about Jesus's time in the tomb, what the Bible says, and what the United Methodist Church believes.
This week in the Men In Progress series, host Dave Casey is joined by Barrett Pliler, Andy Juett, and Trinity Vaughn. In today's episode they discuss bad habits they can't break, their own journeys of overcoming sin, and how they lean on God for guidance. Men In Progress is a monthly series within the Life + God Podcast hosted by the United Methodist Men of Trietsch.
Alyssa Robinson asks Rev. Daniel Humbert questions about Jesus through the lens of someone who didn't grow up learning about Jesus. What do we know about Jesus's personal life? Do I have to believe everything the Bible says about Jesus to be a Christian? How do I know if I believe enough? This is an excellent episode for people who want to share about Jesus or for those who want to learn more about Jesus themselves.
Rev. Doug Meyer and Alyssa Robinson share their understanding of the humanity of Jesus and what it means that Jesus is fully human and fully divine. This concept is very difficult to grasp and they openly wrestle with who Jesus, the man, was together. Learn more about who Jesus said he is by joining us throughout Lent. Learn more at https://www.tmumc.org/lent.
Rev. Gracie Millard walks Alyssa Robinson through the 7 "I Am' claims that Jesus makes in the book of John and what we can learn from each of them. They examine the importance of the term "I Am" in the Old Testament, where it came from, and what it means for us.
Here are some previous episodes for you to explore that Gracie and Alyssa recommend during today's episode:
Ep. 20: How did the Bible come to be?
Ep. 29: What does "salvation" really mean?

Prayer is a mysterious practice. Maybe it leaves you wondering if God hears your prayers, if God is choosing not to answer, or if prayer isn't what you thought it was. Rev. Karen Chraska and Alyssa Robinson dig into the big question, "Why does God answer some prayers and not others?"
The Bible says in Mark 3:29 the only unforgiveable sin is blaspheming the Holy Spirit, but what does that really mean? In today's episode, Rev. Doug Meyer and Alyssa Robinson ask the question, "Does God really forgive anything?"

Laura Sennott and Alyssa Robinson talk about major transitions and transformations they've experienced in their lives. Liminal space is an interesting concept that holds major growth opportunities for our faith and spirituality.
Fr. Richard Rohr describes liminal space as, "where we are betwixt and between the familiar and the completely unknown. There alone is our old world left behind, while we are not yet sure of the new existence. That’s a good space where genuine newness can begin.”
Ready or not, change is happening all around us. Rev. Doug Meyer and Alyssa Robinson have a conversation about working through expected and unexpected life changes, and how change can become transformation.
The Christmas story doesn't end with Jesus's birth. That's where the story begins. Love is birthed into the world and can begin its good work. Denise Robinson and Alyssa Robinson take a look at the events following the birth of Jesus and witness God's kaleidoscope of love start to take shape.
This week in the Men In Progress series, host Dave Casey is joined by Sonny Gann, Kathy O'Keefe, and David Ware to discuss how we can best help those for whom Christmas wasn't so merry. Men In Progress is a monthly series within the Life + God Podcast hosted by the United Methodist Men of Trietsch.
Hope may be one of the most vibrant colors in the Christmas Kaleidoscope. Every single character in Jesus's birth story was driven by hope. Let's take a look at all the individual stories of hanging on to hope as they seek Christ. Are we still holding on to hope today? Rev. Gracie Millard and Alyssa Robinson explore elements of hope within in the Christmas story. Where have you experienced God's hope? We hope you'll join us for Christmas Eve worship to experience the hope and love Christ brings. Visit https://www.tmumc.org/christmas to learn more.
Forgiveness might seem like an odd topic to discuss during Advent, but Jesus's birth brings us forgiveness of our sins. Why does this matter during Advent and how do we incorporate forgiveness into our busy schedules? Let's take a look at the Bible characters in the birth story who were seeking forgiveness and restoration. Why did God use Jesus to offer forgiveness? Couldn't God have forgiven us without Jesus? Maybe you've wondered this before, too. Rev. Daniel Humbert and Alyssa Robinson discuss how Jesus's birth brings forgiveness to each of us, and how forgiveness is at work in the Christmas story. Learn more about Advent and Christmas at Trietsch at https://www.tmumc.org/christmas.
For many of us, Advent and Christmas feel anything but peaceful. We have errands to run, events to attend, and merriment to make! How can we claim the peace that Jesus's birth brings? It's easy to get caught up in the mayhem of the holidays with all the planning, decorating, purchasing, and more. But we're told every year that Jesus's birth ushered in God's peace for all people. What is the idea of Biblical peace that Jesus's birth was supposed to bring and is it possible for us to create a kaleidoscope of peace this Advent? Rev. Karen Chraska shares her perspective on how we can participate in God's peace this Christmas. Learn more about Advent and Christmas at Trietsch at https://www.tmumc.org/christmas.
We like to focus on the peace and beauty of Jesus's birth, but the truth is that Jesus was born into a deeply oppressive culture. Let's bring together all of the elements of injustice surrounding Jesus's birth so we can better understand what Jesus overcame through a kaleidoscope of God's divine justice. God's justice might look different than you imagined. Check out this video from The Bible Project as they explore the theme of justice through scripture: https://youtu.be/A14THPoc4-4.

What does salvation have to do with atonement? Today, Alyssa Robinson and Rev. Gracie Millard dialogue about salvation. Spoiler alert: we end with more questions than answers.
Rev. Karen Chraska and Alyssa Robinson share their beliefs around the afterlife in today's episode. They share their experiences with death and ask questions like...
