Harold Shipman took the death of his mother very hard. He was forced to watch her wither away, and he held onto this pain, but he also lost control. His quest to gain it back led him to kill hundreds of people, making him perhaps the most prolific serial killer in history. Shipman was a medical doctor, and hence the name Dr. Death.
