Nobody Has It All Figured Out: Recent Episodes

Tyger Callahan

Nobody Has It All Figured Out is an effort to help people recognize the commonality of the human experience. I tell stories about times in my life where I have felt mad, guilty, sad, anxious, wrong, unprepared, dumb (lots of these), or so much more.

It’s important to recognize that everyone goes through hardships and difficulty. You don’t need to have life all figured out to take a step forward.

I loved cross country. I hated running. It's undoubtedly a weird combo. There were few races in which I didn't contemplate faking an injury, rolling off to the side, and watching the rest of the runners finish. Patrick was one of the reasons that I loved cross country. Even though I was often directly commisioned by the Governor of Iowa, I did not always put forth 100 percent effort during my time as a maintenance worker for the BCSD. We all have times where our effort is subpar. In the process of minimizing those times, it's important to have grace for ourselves when it happens. After you make a mistake in effort, remember that the count is ZERO. Reload, re-engage, re-calibrate, and be ready to put forth maximum effort next time. I hope you enjoy this fun story.

For some of the episodes of the podcast, I will be featuring a story from an individual that I look up to. Tom Simmermaker is one of those people. Tom is a uniquely hilarious comedian, actor, and content creator. For years, I have enjoyed his quick-witted comedic style, one that successfuly intertwines absurdity, voice inflections, and timing to create an imperfectly polished product.

It is important to recognize that even the people we look up to online go through stressors, hardships, and, in Tom's case, bombing during a bit that he took years to plan. I want to thank Tom for coming on the podcast!

I am a tour guide at Creighton University. I love my job, and I think that I am pretty good at it. Yet throughout all of my tours, I have made so many mistakes. If any new tour guide is listening, I want you to know that I have countless more stories of me messing up on tour.

Whether it is in your job or in life, making mistakes is a key component to growth. 26 times in his career, Michael Jordan was asked to hit the game-winning shot and he missed. It’s okay to miss shots. It is the fact that you are taking them that matters.

I have cried in baseball. I have cried in baseball so many times. It is okay to cry. It is okay to ask for help. There's a book I am reading that has a great line: "Asking for help isn't giving up. It's refusing to give up."

That line doesn't work that great in the context of this story, because I did eventually quit baseball. But like, you get the point. When you are bummed, it is okay to recognize that emotion as genuine and provide a proper outlet for it.

Thank you to my production team. Director of Choreography: Joey Rougas. Title Director: Eleanor Yeager.

Towards the end of my freshmen year in college, I realized that I would have to take a language at Creighton. I hope that you enjoy this short story and can laugh at the wild amount of self-made stressors that I have placed on my life.

We all make mistakes -- dumb mistakes, hurtful mistakes, and, in this case, a funny mistake! I have made mistakes much bigger than the one I tell in this story. It is important to remember that mistakes are an essential part of the human experience. They happen!!! It is how we come back from them that matters.

I have truly an incredible amount of embarrasing moments. Here is one of them. I hope that you enjoy this story.

It is important to recognize that we often only view the perception of other people's success. We can simplify individuals to their acheivements.

Think about NBA star Kevin Love. In 2016, Love was a key player on the NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers. And that's what we called him: NBA CHAMPION! In an article for the Players Tribune, we later learned that Kevin Love was battling mental health stressors throughout their championship run. There is always more to an individual than what they accomplish academically, professionally, or socially.

AND sometimes (spoiler for the episode), the achievements of the individual that you look up to didn't even happen!

Hi everyone. It's Tyger Callahan. I don't have life figured all out (and I don't have podcasting even sort of figured out). I hope that you enjoy the introductory episode to the podcast. New content will be produced weekly and will feature individuals in the Creighton community.
