“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." -Michael Jordan
We all have ambitions, dreams, and aspirations. But the truth is, there are so many things that can get in our way of achieving our goals. One of these is the concept of failure. Everyone fails. There isn’t one person who hasn’t experienced it. It’s how we react and what we learn when it happens that matters.
This week is about self-improvement. Tomorrow's guest is Alex Williamns, he started a podcast called Broken Bulbs and the tagline is “Success doesn't happen without 999 broken bulbs coming before the one, that single idea that works.”
Alex started podcasting to become a better listener and as a means of improving himself. I was also lucky enough to be on the Broken Bulbs Podcast and it was a ton of fun. I’ve failed a lot in my time: relationships, business, life you name it. Each time has been a learning lesson and each time I improved. What no one tells you about failure is that ultimately it gives you an edge on everyone.
What's the best way to improve?
You can:
Read 10 pages a day of a topic you want to improve upon
Find a mentor
Learn a new skill
Or you can gain experience by failing and doing. Attempt the things you’re afraid of. On the other side of fear and comfort are growth and improvement. In fact,
“Good judgment comes from experience, experience comes from bad judgment.” -Dr. Kerr L White
Go out and try something new and fail this week, write down what you learned. Now take those learning lessons and apply them when you try again. Thank you for listening to the valueverse podcast. Here’s to your success.
