In this Pilot Episode of The GRID, host Chris Kuhlmann weighs the approach to decision making by examining the merits of living by science and the data it generates, or living by the principles of freedom as spelled out in the Constitution. Which is reliable, which is consistent?
“So many of my conservative friends want to argue the vaccines based on their merit and they want to talk about whether or not the vaccines work. They want to argue data and science, and I propose to you that if you live by the science you will die by the science, because what's acceptable data, and what's acceptable as the external source of that data, is really in the eye of the beholder.
Are vaccines effective? Are they high risk? Low risk? Are they more risky or less risky than the COVID disease itself.
And of course, I've had friends that when I say, ‘The COVID vaccine,” they scream back at me in all caps, “THIS IS NOT A VACCINE, IT’S GENE THERAPY.” You know what? All this may be true, but what if in the short term a study came out that actually shows vaccines are less risky than the disease itself, and that the study was irrefutable. What do we do then if our argument is based completely on science and completely on data? Then we’re really stuck.”
