Just as John 1:1-18 acted as an introduction to the whole Gospel, John 13:1-30 acts as an introduction to the second half of John’s Gospel. In the 13:1-17, we are given an illustration of how Jesus is going to love his own to the uttermost, and this illustration is his act of washing his disciples feet. In this act, Jesus tells us about his person and work in the following ways…

  1. The Lord of Glory loves his own by dying for them
  2. The High Priest loves his own by continually cleansing them
  3. The Lord and Teacher loves his own by giving them an example to follow
