"Love your neighbor as yourself." All of us have heard this greatest of commands that Jesus taught.  In fact, nearly every religion in the world also teaches it in some form.   Yet even though we have been taught it and believe it to be a true teaching that benefits everyone, we find it difficult or near impossible to keep with any consistency.
Why? 

The problem lies in the fact that we can only give what we have first received. So what most us end up giving to our neighbor is something other than love.  The only solution  is to first accept love for ourselves. For only then will we  be able to give that love to our neighbor because we have first received it for ourselves. 

This episode demonstrates to us that our perception of the world provides us with the feedback we need to prompt us to change the way we think so that we may receive the love of Christ and thus extend it to others.
