Hebrews 8 - A Better Ministry
8 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.
A better ministry is the title of this message
Now the main point in what has been said
o The main point that we need to take away from the message in Chapter 7 about Melchizedek is this:
o We have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens
§ This is about the risen Lord who went back up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the throne (His true position)
§ This means that He completed His mission and now He can rest until all His enemies are made His footstool
o A minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man
§ This is not a tent made by man on earth!
§ This is the real thing – the true tabernacle created by God Himself!
§ The tabernacle on earth was just a picture of the true tabernacle in Heaven
3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; so it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer.
o Notice this is the purpose of a high priest
o He offers gifts and sacrifices to God on behalf of the people to make atonement
o The high priest must offer something..
4 Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; 5 who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “See,” He says, “that you make all things according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”
The priests on earth offer gifts according to the Law (specific offerings)
Who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things
o Notice the tabernacle and the gifts & sacrifices are a copy and shadow
§ they point to the real gifts and the sacrifice!
o God showed Moses the pattern (the blue prints)
o He told Moses to make all things according to the pattern (follow it carefully)
o So that which was built on earth was a copy of that which God built
o God gave Moses specific instruction on what and how to build the tabernacle so it would be representative of the one in heaven!
6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.
But now (this is what applies now)
He has obtained a more excellent ministry
