Praise for Deliverance.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

21 O Lord, in Your strength the king will be glad,
And in Your [a]salvation how greatly he will rejoice!

  • Praise for Deliverance is the title of Chapter 21

  • 21 is made up of three sevens 3 x 7 = 21

  • 3 is the number for the trinity; 7 is the number for completion

  • The trinity (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) will keep working until its complete

  • In Chapter 20, we had Prayer for Victory over Enemies

  • Prayer always proceeds Victory; apparently we get the victory in Chapter 21

  • Oh Lord in Your strength the king will be glad

o notice that it is in the Lord's strength that the king will be glad (not in his own)

  • and in Your salvation how greatly he will rejoice

o Notice it is in the Lord salvation (This is why he will greatly rejoice)

o So too we should be glad about the Lord's strength

o And we should rejoice greatly about his salvation

§ Does gladness and rejoicing describe your attitude today?

2 You have given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. [b]Selah.

  • To give one his hearts desire means God searched the heart and gave it – its deepest desire; this should be regarded as a great reward (unearned yet provided in love)

  • And you have withheld the request of his lips. Selah (which means think about it)

o The request of your lips are spoken words

o It is called prayer

o You pray; you believe; you receive (it’s a perfect math formula)

o Yet it only works when the heart is right with God

o Why doesn’t it always work?
