A thick haze of smoke from Canadian wildfires settled over Long Island yesterday, delaying flights, canceling outdoor events and casting an ugly — and unhealthy — burnt-orange pall over the region.

The Town of Riverhead will now have to defend its controversial state of emergency in court.
